Former Armagh footballer Oisín McConville, who now works as an addiction counsellor, believes there should be a complete ban on gambling ads around sporting events

He was speaking after research published by the Institute of Public Health found that young gamblers in the 18-34 age group report a high exposure to gambling ads

Young adult gamblers said the ads, across a range of platforms from television to social media, were so frequent that some found the exposure "inescapable"

Speaking to RedFM News Oisín McConville who works with gamblingcare.ie following his well publicised issues with gambling, says the addiction is not being taken seriously enough

"It is affecting young people, it has the highest rate of suicide of all the addictions.  We are talking about, something which has catastrophic implications, not just for the person in addiction, but for those people around that person too.don't think we just know how stark it is, and I don't think we have taken it seriously enough"
