There have been renewed calls for certain dog breeds to be banned following an attack on two women in Waterford City.
It happened in the St John's Park area of the city on Friday afternoon.
The women, one aged in her 30s and the other in her late teens, were taken to University Hospital Waterford for treatment for serious injuries.
The Pitbull dog was later seized by Waterford City Council.
Sinn Fein councillor for Waterford City, John Hearne, says more dog wardens are needed to enforce responsible dog ownership:
"For 192,000 dogs we have, we have only 60 full-time wardens. That means there's 3,205 dogs for every warden. On no council budget, I've ever had a discussion on, was there ever any discussion about giving extra money for animal welfare".
