More options are needed to meet the needs of people who want to socialise at night, outside of bars and clubs.
That's the view of Alcohol Action Ireland, who say the majority of these spaces are 'alco-centric'
It follows the closure of one of the country's last standalone 24-hr coffee shops, Starbucks near Stephen's Green in Dublin.
CEO Sheila Gilheany says the options are too limited at present:
"I certainly think if there were more options people would be able to veer off to me there's no doubt about that but at the moment we very much are kind of presented with an alco centric view of a nighttime experience and really a scope to try and reimagine that"
