All sides need to redouble their efforts in order to break the deadlock which will allow the Northern Ireland Assembly to get up and running again.
The call comes following a major security operation in Derry when a man was ordered at gunpoint to transport a suspicious device in a hijacked car to a police station.
The device was later confirmed to have been a hoax.
Fianna Fail MEP Barry Andrews said the latest incident and the attempted murder of members of the PSNI in Strabane underlines the need to push for a deal.
