Rural public transport services are not good enough and need to be improved to help keep costs down.
A new report out today from Social Justice Ireland shows people outside major towns and cities rely on expensive car journeys.
The group has called on the Government to focus on transport services and cycle infrastructure for rural areas.
Research analyst with Social Justice Ireland Suzanne Rogers says people who have no choice but to drive are suffering:
"Families in rural Ireland would have to run two cars because if it's two parents that are working, there's an enormous cost involved in that. Whilst public transport is there, if you're lucky enough to be in a city or a major suburban center, you do have access to public transport. It's really about looking across the country and seeing how are communities being served."
