The consumer watchdog is looking for the State to create an online portal for car historys.
The CCPC believes such a platform would make the roads safer and help those buying a second-hand car.
Information like mileage and write-off status would be included.
Transport Commentator Conor Faughnan, believes it would be an easy system to create
"Dodgy stuff is still definitely going to happen but you can tighten the rules. If you make it easier for the consumer, if they can tilt the balance of this in the consumers favour, then why not do so? And I'm not sure it will be an enormously complicated project either. There are some very, very good state portals now that we're used to relying on passport renewal and various social services, etc.."
