The Central Bank says it's contacted both AIB and Ulster Bank over a tracker mortgage issue.

Some AIB customers whose loan was transferred from Ulster Bank received letters saying the mortgage had been underpayed.

AIB is to contact customers impacted in the coming weeks after the letters said their bills would increase from October to rectify it.

Online application.com CEO Karl Deeter says people shouldn't worry:

"The good news is that it actually was just an error, effectively a typo that went out to a lot of people in the end of July, about a rate increase that came about as a result of the European Central Bank. AIB are moving to fix it. I think it's a call for calm because nobody has actually been charged this money. It iseffectively a letter with wrong information on it. Nobody has been overcharged or overcharged".
