Concerns remain over the new Sláintecare public only contract, according to the chairman of the IMO.
Just 61 existing consultants have switched over to the new contract since its introduction in March.
The contracts come with requirements for weekend and evening work, which has been an issue for doctor’s representative groups.
Dr. Matthew Sadlier says the uptake to date is very low:
"We do feel that the process of switching over will take some time, just the paperwork and the HR logistics of actually doing it. So we wouldn't have expected a large number by this stage, but we probably would have expected the interest to be bigger than 61 - which is a very low number".
