Chernobyl campaigner Adi Roche has described the Government's decision to formally exonerate her brother Dónal de Róiste as a "proud moment".
He was forced to retire from the Defence Forces more than 50 years ago, and his family have now welcomed an apology from the Government over his treatment.
Donal De Róiste was removed by then President Eamon De Valera in 1969, and was never officially told the reasons for his retirement.
He had spent the last 53 years trying to clear his name, after it was suggested to him that his dismissal was due to an alleged association with militants.
Defence Minister Simon Coveney offered an apology this week, and Donal says he's glad his name has been cleared:
"I'm over come and I tell you and justice delayed is still justice I'm grateful for everybody who helped me all the years this was by mee."
