The Citizens' Assembly on Drug Use has heard a number of presentations for and against legalising drugs.
The body could call for a liberalisation of drugs laws, despite opposition from Gardaí and some prominent health figures.
Gardaí argue it would reduce their search powers and could make Ireland a tourist destination for drugs.
Paul Reid - who is the Head of the Citizen's Assembly - says it's a much wider issue:
"You know, one of the things that certainly comes through very strongly is, we know that drugs are quite pervasive across the country, and but we equally know that it hurts marginalised communities. It's not just a drugs issues, it's the whole issue of social deprivation. And one of the strongest presentations you know, we've had over this again, again, was kind of the wider environmental issues that lead to people to go into addiction".
