Coimisiún na Meán has published an updated draft Online Safety Code today.
The new regulations will apply to video-sharing platforms who have their EU headquarters here, including TikTok, YouTube and X.
Platforms will be required to protect users from harmful content, including cyberbullying, incitement to hatred or violence, child sex abuse and racism.
Alex Cooney, CEO of Cyber Safe Kids, says there are still come areas of concern within the code:
"For example, around timeframes and targets related to take down. So if a complaint is issued to a particular service like TikTok it talks about timely, diligent and objective kind of review and takedown. And actually we need more specifics there. What is the baseline? What should we expect of these companies? I think that if we just leave them to it, nothing will change."
