Concern Mounting Amid Speculation Of Job Cuts At Another Department Store In Cork

It's understood Marks & Spencer is planning to announce hundreds of job cuts this week with several thousand roles expected to be lost over the coming months

It comes as the retailer accelerates an ongoing restructuring of the business.

M&S operates two stores here in Cork on Patrick street and at Douglas Village Shopping Centre however it's not yet known if jobs at these stores will be affected.

It follows similar moves by both Boots and Debenhams which have also confirmed cuts recently.

Cork Debenhams workers have been protesting for over three months calling for redundancy payment and say their fight is not just about them but about workers rights across the country.

Speaking to RedFM News Cllr Mick Nugent says if the plight of some workers here in Cork proves anything, it's that firm legislation is needed to protect employees:
