There are concerns people will be charged for taking cash out of independent ATMs.
AIB and Bank of Ireland sold around 1,200 non-branch ATMs to independent operators in 2021.
The Consumers' Association of Ireland claims they could charge 1 euro every time cash is withdrawn.
Association chairperson Michael Kilcoyne says they need to be regulated:
"These machines are owned by third party operators. They're not lease agreements. They were sold off. They only gave a commitment at the time that they weren't going to charge for three years, three years are now up. They're free to charge what they want. I want them regulated. They're not regulated".
