A confidential contact is being appointed to help members of the Defence Forces who make allegations of bullying and sexual harassment.
The person will be from outside the Defence Forces, to act independently when complaints are made.
It follows allegations made by a group called 'Women of Honour' of rape, sexual harrassment and bullying within the Defence Forces.
Defence Minister Simon Coveney says he will address the problem.
"It's very concerning, and I'd believe those stories.
"I've also had a very long meeting with serving members of the Defence Forces, women who have come together to effectively speak bluntly and confidentially to me about their experiences in the Defence Forces, and it's not a good story.
"We need to fix it, and we're going to fix it."
