Nobody has a legal right to return a gift they don't like, or a gift they've received twice.
That's according to the Irish Times Consumer Correspondent Conor Pope.
He says some people will instead decide to 're - gift' items instead, if a shop won't accept them back.
But Conor has this advice for anyone wishing to return an item this week:
"You can shout down the supermarket or the shop all you like, you don't have a legal right to return anything. So if you get a gift that you don't like, you can't just bring it back. That's the first thing to remember. The second thing is, you have to have proof of purchase and it doesn't matter if you know if it's the loveliest shop in the world or the meanest shop in the world. If you're going to return something, you have to be able to prove that it came from that shop."
