Consumer confidence in the economy received a boost in November.

However, KBC's Consumer Sentiment Index indicates there is a cautious outlook for the future as a result of the pandemic.

Chief Economist at KBC, Austin Hughes, says the results came a surprise to him.

"The index rose from 52.6 to 65.5 in November.

"It puts us well below the levels we saw before the pandemic at the start of the year when the index was hovering at about 85.

"But it puts us a good deal better than where we were at the low point in April."
