Consumers have been warned to be extra vigilant when shopping online, as new figures show online debit and credit card fraud has reached record levels in Ireland.
The report, from the Banking & Payments Federation, shows online card fraud rose by 21 percent in 2020.
CEO of the BPFI, Brian Hayes, says there were over 275,000 individual fraudulent debit and credit card transactions last year.
"It amounts to about €24m in losses to Irish consumers and ind led the Irish banking sector.
"It's very important as we prepare for Black Friday and the onset of more online shopping in the run up to Christmas that consumers are extra vigilant in terms of their online activity and what they're actually buying online."
