Cork based statistics expert says the odds have improved for winning this weekend’s lotto, but are still quite low

This Saturday’s €19.5 million jackpot must be won.

If no one matches six numbers, the money will flow to winners in the lower tiers.

University College Cork statistics lecturer Michael Cronin explains the odds:

"What the lottery has done is they have guaranteed that the jackpot will be won. But that doesn't mean that your chance has now increased dramatically such that you have a very high chance of winning the lottery. It's still quite removed, but somebody or some number of people will win probably the five plus."
