A Cork hotelier says he's fearful that some smaller businesses who cannot weather the significant costs facing them will be forced to close in the coming months.
Michael Magner from the The Vienna Woods Hotel in Glanmire was speaking after hotel and guesthouse owners in Cork met with local political representatives to discuss the challenges facing the tourism industry into next next year.
Tourism supports almost 27,000 jobs in Cork and generates €895 million annually.
Speaking to RedFM News, Michael Magner says it's vital that the government do everything they can to protect jobs.
"Business is robust, but unfortunately it is not translating to the bottom line.
"I'm fearful for smaller businesses, and business who cannot absorb those significant operating costs into the future as we go through Q1 of 2023, which is always the quietest times for restaurants and bars and for other tourism related entities.
"I'm fearful for those jobs.Again, referring to our engagement with Government last week, they were very open and listened to the reality of the situation."
