A Cork MEP has labelled as 'weak' a review into the abandoned secondment of the Chief Medical Officer.
It was ordered by his party colleague, Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly.
Under the terms of reference the review will determine 'learnings' from the process and it's expected to be completed in June.
Ireland South MEP Billy Kelleher doesn't believe the review is good enough:
"We should have a full inquiry into it, and then we can determine the learnings thereafter. But I just believe that this certainly will not get to the bottom of what is a very serious issue in the context of public trust. You know, we have to, first of all find out why the Minister of Health wasn't kept informed, and this wasn't an ordinary secondment. This was an unusual secondment of the Chief Medical Officer - a very high profile and a very important role. And what is most regrettable in all this is that we've lost Tony Houlihan to the Public Service".
