A Cork TD and farmer in West Cork has described the supermarket price war on dairy products as a "war of convenience".
Farmers says the price-war over dairy products which has seen four supermarket giants reduce the price of milk and butter as a "real threat".
The majority of the country's dairy farmers are based here in Cork and they say they are being hit on both sides as they are being paid less for the production of raw milk but faces heightened expense on feed for their cows.
Dairy farmers say they cannot afford any more losses and are very worried by the price drops.
Social Democrats leader and West Cork farmer Holly Cairns believes it's a war of convenience by supermarkets who are earning massive profits regardless.
"What start as a cost of living crisis has now become a cost of greed crisis.
"Entire industries are taking advantage of this crisis by inflating their profits to unsustainable levels.
"Corporate profits were up 30% last year, while domestic companies saw their profit surge by 17%."
