The cost of home heating oil has risen more than 115% in the past year, according to the latest Consumer Price Index.

It has inflation running at 9.1% to the end of June, the highest rate since 1984.

Electricity, gas, diesel and petrol costs have all risen between 40% and 57% in a year.

Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe says they will address the issues in the Budget in September, partially through tax changes:

"We want to do our best to help workers keep their fair share of the wages they are due to at work and that will form a really important part of the package that we announce on budget day as well, and it's why the government agreed to a change in the resources that are available for taxation element of the budget."
