It's believed Covid-19 lockdowns would have had an effect on road safety figures.
The number of people killed on Irish roads is expected to rise by about 16% by the end of this year, compared to 2021.
Sligo has the highest incidence of fatalities per capita, followed by Monaghan and Limerick.
Southern Correspondent with the Irish Independent Ralph Riegel says the pandemic could have had an impact:
"Last year you did have the lingering impact of Covid 19 lockdowns, which did reduce the amount of traffic on the roads and therefore, certainly had an effect on the road safety figures, but I think the major concern is that we're heading into the most dangerous time of the year, which is the Christmas season where we do have a lot of awful accidents."
