Customs officers have seized over 59-thousand laughing gas canisters, worth 1.9 million euro, in a series of raids in Dublin and Meath.
Nitrous oxide is used legitimately in the catering industry but it's also inhaled as a psychoactive drug.
The seizure was made as officers had reasonable grounds to suspect it would end up in the wrong hands, following a tip-off.
