The daughter of a man who brutally murdered her mother in Kilkenny two years ago has told him she awaits his letter as to why he did it.

Trevor Rowe, of Abbey Street, Kilkenny, was handed the mandatory life sentence today for murdering Anne Butler in her home.

"Trevor Rowe claimed he was too intoxicated to form the requisite intention to murder Anne Butler in her home during the first lockdown in March 2020.

But following his trial last month, the jury didn’t believe him and convicted him of murder.

Anne Butler was living on her own in Maudlin Street in Kilkenny city. The trial heard harrowing details of how she died. She was beaten and stabbed to death.

Her body then lay undiscovered for five days.

At his sentence hearing today, her daughter Elayne, described her as an extraordinary lady, with a wonderful spirit.

She said she was alluring, brave, charming, dignified, fun, independent, intelligent, private, quirky, and witty but at the core of her being was kindness and love.

Before she finished, she addressed Rowe directly, telling him she awaited his letter explaining why he did what he did to her mother."
