Death by Suicide is 7 times higher among travellers than in the national population.
A seminar will be held today to address the mental health crisis among the travelling community.
It's been organised by the National Traveller Mental Health Network to mark International Human Rights Day
Manager of the Traveller Counselling Service, Thomas McCann is calling on the Government to bring in a Traveller mental health strategy:
"We're two years into the government here and it hasn't happened. It really needs a national strategy to address the issue because, like, I think, about 90%, 95% of travellers are affected by suicide and mental health across the country. I think that was the last survey in 2017 that was done nationally. So it really needs a national response".
