Joe Biden's Democrat party have claimed the first major scalp in the US midterm elections.
They have claimed the US Senate seat in Pennsylvania, a gain from the Republicans as the race to control the upper house remains very close.
Donald Trump's Republican Party are currently forecast to reclaim the House of Representatives with a very slim majority - with over 60 races yet to be declared.
Washington reporter with The Guardian, David Smith, says they will not have made the gains they had anticipated.
"We have been hearing about this red wave or even red tsunami and it's really hit a blue wall. It's been very anticlimactic for the Republicans.
"Elections are often a lot about expectations and the been a lot of hype about how Republicans are going to make these these sweeping gains and it just hasn't really turned out that way."
