Demonstrators have gathered on Moore Street in Dublin to demand its buildings are protected.
It follows Dublin City Council's approval of planning permission for redevelopment at the historic 1916 site.
Demonstrators want it turned into a major cultural quarter, which could attract tourists and boost Dublin's economy.
Frank Allen, one of the organizers of the Love Moore Street event, says its history and identity is threatened:
"O'Rahilly, one of the leaders who was actually killed in the street, was riddled with bullets, and actually wrote that very iconic letter to his wife and children before he died. You know, under this new plan to for to develop a shopping mall here, that area, where that iconic moment in our history happened would become a car park."
