A doctor working in Ireland's adult National Gender Service is accusing the HSE of letting "ideology" dictate clinical practice.
Professor Donal O'Shea claims senior management is allowing the transgender service to become activist-led and is not assessing patients, who are looking for hormonal treatment, to a high enough standard.
He says the closure of the controversial Tavistock Clinic in the UK - where Irish people were being sent for gender treatment - is welcome, but claims they're now being sent to a similar clinic in Belgium for "affirmative" care.
Professor O'Shea, who's also the HSE's national lead for obesity, says he and his colleagues are being silenced:
"Every time we're gone along to say 'This isn't safe', we've been told, 'Stop saying that'. None of our concerns have been addressed. And you mentioned the Cancel Brigade earlier. Politicians are cancelled. I've had party leaders say, 'No, no, we can't talk about this or we'll be cancelled', and when clinical care is being directed by ideology, then you've got a problem".
