A new study has found doctors' fears of being sued is contributing to high rates of C-Sections in Ireland.
Researchers at Trinity College in Dublin found the number of first-time mothers giving birth by caesarean is rising steadily.
One obstetrician told researchers many Irish women giving birth 'were fat, old and short' compared to the Netherlands for example.
Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at Rotunda Hospital, Maeve Eogan, says it's not surprising doctors and nurses are prioritising safety during childbirth.
"It's the advert outcome really that people are anxious to avoid.
"Humans aren't robots, and no pregnant woman will have the same response to a particular intervention as another.
"Consequently, you've got to individualise the care."
