A plan to offer State accommodation on a short term basis to new arrivals from war torn Ukraine is unworkable, according to a group working with refugees.
Proposals to be discussed by government today would mean that after three months in Ireland Ukrainians would have to find either a rental property or take up the offer of a home pledged by members of the public.
But migrants rights group Doras says better planning and more money is needed.
Chief executive of the organisation John Lannon says the standard of accommodation for refugees is getting worse:
"The government has provided accommodation created for 80,000 people from Ukraine in the last 18 months. But we're seeing an ongoing deterioration in standards, to the point where people have been living in tents. A lot of the accommodation that's being provided isn't suitable for children and families. There's an over reliance on hotels".
