Large commercial jets could soon be taking off and landing again at Waterford regional airport.
The facility looks set to benefit from a major investment, which would see it expanded to accommodate larger jets and become an air freight support hub.
Reports that billionaire investors the Comer Brothers are to pay €20 million for a majority share in the airport are being welcomed.
Its understood both Ryanair and Aer Lingus Regional are in discussions to provide flight services once the works are completed.
Local Independent TD Matt Shanahan says there is a demand for commercial flights into the south east region.
