55 million euro from dormant accounts is being distributed to disadvantaged communities.

The money, which comes from unclaimed life insurance policies, will be used to tackle long term unemployment, traveller equality, youth disadvantage, and migrant integration.

The Minister for charities, Joe O'Brien says this funding will benefit several sectors of the Traveller community:

"I think the Irish population as a whole has a fair idea that the situation for travellers isn't as it should be: housing issues, health issues, education issues. This funding will help that in a significant way. But we need more investment, we need more commitment over time to improve the situation, I think."
