The Environment Minister has suggested Budget 2023 could be brought forward by up to a month.

It comes amid growing pressure from opposition parties to introduce measures this summer, to help tackle the cost-of-living crisis.

Eamon Ryan also indicated some immediate measures - such as once-off fuel or food payments - can be introduced in Autumn, while longer term financial plans will kick in in January, as normal.

The Green party leader says bringing in new measures before September would be a bad idea:

"I think whether it's September or October is a relatively minor change one way or the other.  I think that the opposition are also calling for doing everything now but I don't think that is the right thing to do for a variety of reasons. Firstly, we've already engaged with National Economic Dialogue last week, with social partners with the trade unions, with businesses and with NGOs, and I think that partnership approach strengthens us as a country."
