A new Green deal for the country will involve big changes for rural Ireland, according to Eamon Ryan.

Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil are considering a 17 point letter from the Green Party leader, potentially opening the door for a coalition government between them.

Sources in both parties say they think they can work with the document.

Green Party leader Eamon Ryan says any government involving them will need a big focus on reducing carbon emissions.

"This could be a green deal for rural as well as urban Ireland.

"It won't work if it's not going to lead to a better, really stronger  revived communities in rural Ireland, and yes that involves changing agricultural, let's be up front about that.

"The current agricultural system is not working for family farms, the vast vast majority."
