It's expected turf-cutters will be allowed to sell peat to their neighbours .
The news comes as the Green Party leader Eamon Ryan is preparing to announce the exact details of his highly contentious turf ban this week, which is set to include a ban on the sale of commercial turf online and in retail stores.
Environmentalist and Architect Duncan Stewart said turf cutting should be allowed on a small scale but only if machinery is not used in the process:
"Small cutting, where it's at a level of somebody with a flame cutting turf and and using it for their own home, that's not the issue at all. That's tiny compared to when machines come onto the land when the big cutting machines are out there on the on the bogs, that's where the damage has been done."
