An electricity price war could be on the cards.
Yuno energy is slashing is discounted price by 12 per cent with immediate effect.
The company, which only entered the Irish market in August, says it means its prices will be 350 euro a year cheaper than its competitors.
However its likely other electricity firms may also cut prices in order to compete.
