Pilots at Emerald Airlines, including in Cork, are determined to get a collective agreement - even if means escalating their industrial action further.

That's according to the trade union Fórsa.

Emerald Airlines operates the regional service for Aer Lingus, including between Bristol and Cork 6-days-a-week since April.

Yesterday, Forsa served notice of a 24-hour work stoppage on the Friday leading into the August Bank Holiday Weekend.

The industrial action is in response to the airline’s alleged failure to engage with IALPA, the professional association which represents pilots in Ireland.

Speaking to RedFM News, Director of Media Relations at Fórsa, Niall Shanahan says members are feeling determined.

"The mood is best described as one of their resolve. They back the industrial action ballot back in May, with a very, very strong majority. They have followed through on the work-to-rule actions and it was the pilots' decision to go ahead with the work stoppage.

"They're very much focused, very resolved, on getting a meaningful engagement for management so that we can begin to work toward a collective agreement for pilots. And they remain determined to see that result come through."
