Energy prices could increase by up to 30 per cent during peak hours this winter.
The energy regulator is proposing a range of changes from October 1st to curb the peak-time power surge that happens every day from 5pm to 7pm.
Price comparison website, Bonkers.ie, says it’s ‘almost guaranteed’ these will be passed on to customers.
Its head of communications, Darragh Cassidy, says the price increases could be significant:
"It really depends on the pricing that suppliers use. The CRU has mooted a 10% premium for usage between 5pm and 7pm, but it could be even higher".
