Cutting gas use by 15% across the EU will not be enough to get through winter, according to the Environment Minister.
European Ministers are meeting in Brussels to discuss Commission proposals on the issue.
It's being proposed in the expectation Russia will cut gas supplies.
Minister Eamon Ryan believes the EU plan is an important signal:
"15% would probably not be enough given the fact the Russians have just announced a further reduction in their gas supplies through Nord Stream one, but it's better than not having it and I think the signal it sends is also important to our citizens and to the wider world."
