The Cork Simon Community say the level of family homelessness in Cork has fallen dramatically in recent months.
The latest report from the Department of Housing shows there were 52 families living in emergency accommodation in the South West region of Cork and Kerry- a decrease of 14 families compared to the same time last year.
The charity say the decrease is partly down to the moratorium on evictions during the pandemic, but say cases of single people becoming homelessness are slowly rising.
Speaking to RedFM News, Paul Sheehan from Cork Simon outlines the current situation.
"It's kind of a mixed situation. Huge progress has been made in family homelessness, and we've seen the number of families homeless in Cork and in the south west decline significantly.
"That decline started before the pandemic, but accelerated throughout.
"The other side of that coin is that single homelessness has increased."
