Farmers are warning they'll soon go out of business unless retailers and food processors raise their prices.
The Irish Farmers Association has been meeting with supermarket CEOs over the past week to get higher returns for their animals.
It says poultry and pig farmers are struggling badly with inflation hitting the cost of energy and animal feed.
IFA President Tim Cullinane says retailers need to stop selling fresh food on discount deals:
"A lot of our farmers are going to go out of business. That's how serious the situation is at the moment. On the back of those negotiations or discussions with retailers, it needs to happen immediately. So we need to see the price at retail level increasing. And we need to get away from this practice of discounting fresh produce, let it be pork or chicken or fresh vegetables. This practice has to stop."
