It comes after a controversial planning application to build an apartment block near Bessborough was lodged.
Catherine Corless, whose research unveiled the mass burial of 796 children in a septic tank at a similar home in Tuam, believes the site in Bessborough could contain similar horrors.
However Catherine Corless says there could be hundreds of children who died in the home and remain unaccounted for:
"They actually have the names of all the children who died in Bessborough, and they have up to 1,000 names. Now they have all the names of those children. When they died and what they died of- the same as Tuam. It's horrific to think that there are so many children missing."
