District heating systems wouldn't work in rural areas, according to a central heating contractor.
It comes amid plans to ban the installation of gas and oil boilers to new and existing homes, potentially as early as 2025.
District heating systems use heat-generated by industry sources and is pumped out to homes through underground pipelines.
The managing director of JCPS Mechanical, John Corr, says it wouldn't be suitable for rural areas, and even underground pipelines in Dublin is running out of room.
