The Finance Minister says the Government is limited on how much it can help mortgage holders in the upcoming budget.
Speaking in Cork today, Michael McGrath says he understands that people with mortgages have seen a huge spike in interest rates for the last two years.
Government say there are limitations to the size of the budget and most of it is already accounted for.
Speaking to RedFM News, Minister Michael McGrath says if the Government control mortgage interest rates then inflation could remain higher for longer:
"We have to strike the right balance, broadly in this budget, providing support for households and businesses that need it and target the resources as far as we can. But not pushing infation in the wrong direction. So we are considering what options there may be but there are limits to what we can do, no final decisions have been made at this stage."
