Drivers who use their phone while behind the wheel will be hit with a larger fine, under new plans proposed today.
Junior Transport Minister Hildegarde Naughton, who has responsibility for road safety, says the move is part of a series of measures, to reduce deaths on our roads.
So far in 2022, 87 people have died in road traffic accidents, an increase of 27 from 2021.
New regulations to raise the fine for using your phone while driving are in the works, along with greater penalties for not wearing a seatbelt.
