Irish fishing crews who persuaded the Russian navy to abandon military exercises off the south-west coast are now taking on the French.
The Irish Independent reports that major protests are to be mounted to prevent French naval vessels from staging similar exercises in important fishing grounds later this month.
The Irish South and West Producers Organisation, based in Castletownbere in Co. Cork, says it wants to prevent the 'potential catastrophic environmental damage' from the proposed military drills.
