The Russian Ambassador to Ireland hasn't been expelled, because diplomatic channels need to be kept open.
That's the view of the Foreign Affairs Minister, who says war needs to be replaced by communication.
He says Ireland's role is to ensure there is a cost to the continuation of this war for Russia.
Simon Coveney says Ireland will continue to be supportive of sanctions:
"Even today, a 10 million people across Ukraine without power, many without water, as snow is now falling at the onset of winter. So Ireland's position in relation to to Russia and its aggression in Ukraine has been to ensure that there is a cost to the continuation of this war for Russia. That's why we have been supportive of eight different rounds of sanctions."
