Ireland would support extending EU sanctions on Russia to the energy sector, according to the Foreign Affairs Minister.
European Foreign Ministers are meeting in Brussels to discuss the imposition of more sanctions over the conflict in Ukraine.
Minister Simon Coveney believes new measures should include restrictions on oil imports:
"Yeah, I mean, certainly from an Irish perspective, we are open to that. We think that is appropriate. You know, looking at the extent of the destruction in Ukraine right now, it's very hard, in my view, to make the case that we shouldn't be moving into the energy sector, particularly oil and coal. In terms of interrupting normal trade in that space."
