The former doorman at the Stardust nightclub has insisted the fire exit doors were locked on the night of the fire.

The Dublin District Coroner's Court is continuing to hear evidence into the deaths of 48 people following the deadly blaze in 1981.

Under questioning from legal representatives from the families of the victims, Michael Kavanagh says locking of the doors was dangerous.

He said that he said to people at the time that he thought it was dangerous and foolish.

He also spoke about the practice of draping chains on the bars of the doors to give the impression they were locked.

He said this was done to dissuade patrons from letting their friends in through them without paying.

He agreed while he did not receive any fire training, he was shown how to drape the chain across the fire exit doors.

The inquest continues.
